problem drinker

A person who uses alcohol to the fact that it causes issues such as a DUII, marital/relationship problems, difficulty on the job, or other negative consequences. They also may or may not be physically dependent/addicted to alcohol.

A word that I swear used to exist in and before the aughts, especially in academic literature, but there is no evidence online, aside from some academic articles. Another Berenstain/ Berenstain Bears phenomenon.

Notably, the date of the invention of the "word problematic" keeps changing. However, it was invented in the sixties. In the late 1800s, problematical was a more common pseudoword than problematic. Word usage history charts may change after posting this definition.
