Emo is defined by a group of 14-17 year old suburban highschool students who complain about how hard they have it. Emo followers complain about how their parents make them grow up in an upper middle class enviornment. To be emo you must listen to emotional garbage pop artists such as Taking Back Sunday, The Killers, and other lame bands of that sort. An emo person will also have a myspace page set as private so they can feel like they are depriving someone from being their friend by their choice. Emo people always have extremly tight clothing mainly in the color black. They have 1/3 of their face covered by their greasy flat hair. This is believed to cover their eye so nobody can see into their tortured soul or some b.s.
An example of an emo is that loner who sits in the corner with his group of homosexual looking goths. Emo and goth are completely seperate catagories and are not to be confused with one another. Goths usually have some substance to their being and do not want approval from others. Where emo's want to act like goths but will never get the slitest amount of respect from anyone.

They also think they have all the problems in the world when they are actually boffins who scrounge off of mummy and daddy and live in a big mansion. But for attention they think it's cool to slit their wrists and then go and broadcast it. They wear tight black jeans, converses, scarfs (even when it's hot), thick rimmed geeky glasses, and all look like clones of eachother. When they are not self harming they skip around town pissing everyone off with their high pitching yelling. They like to go to crappy gigs and chat about how shit their lives are. They hate everyone apart from eachother.

Get the Emo mug.The other 1200 definitions explain the term itself and its origins better than I can here, but it is important to note that the music and accompanying culture currently labeled "emo" by the press and popular media (as well as by the kids themselves) is essentially the same music and culture we all would have simply referred to as "alternative" a decade ago, and which has been shoveled into the media-created pigeonhole formerly occupied by the (arguably artificial) subgenre of "alternative" music known as "grunge" back in the '90s.
