folkster

A young person, usually between the ages of 16-30, who has a particular love for folk music and country lifestyle. Sometimes referred to as a less-mainstream hipster, this kind of youngster has a keen love for banjos and mandolin. Usually can be found reading Steinbeck, drinking Foster's beer, and smoking cheap cigarettes. The women tend to have a more boy-ish hipster style, but can also be found with worn out white Converse and an Adidas T-shirt with sleeves rolled up to the shoulder. Will probably be daunting a pixie cut of a flat color, or long, wavy un-brushed hair. Men can be found sporting facial hair from a little scruff to a full on mountain-man beard. Clothing is typically channeling a 1930's/Great Depression feel, with vests, paper boy caps, skinny pants, and a belt buckle. More urban folksters can also be seen wearing flannel shirts and Urban Outfitter V-necks. Music taste consists of that of Laura Marling, Johnny Flynn, Mumford & Sons, Noah & the Whale, The Apache Relay, etc... When asked, most folksters will say their favorite music genre is nu-folk.

Kid 1: Why are you playing a banjo, do you think you're some kind of hipster who loves musical instruments usually seen as red-neck?
Kid 2: No, I love folk music.
Kid 1: Oh, you're a folkster! My apologies.

Folk Metal

Style of metal more popular in Scandanavia, including bands like Finntroll, Otyg, Korpiklaani, and Lumsk. Folk metal is usually recognized by the inclusion of instruments such as violins, woodwinds, and accordians, and also by the more melodic non-screaming style of singing and more medieval sounding riffs.

Someone asked me if I liked Slipknot, so I punched him clear in the sternum and as he was gasping for air on the floor I told him I only listened to pure Finnish Folk Metal, not pussy American merchandise-metal.

Comes from an old Welsh phrase: "There’s nowt so queer as folk" and basically taken to mean "There is nothing as strange as people" refined further to "it takes all sorts".

turbo folk

Turbo folk is a balkan style, first originated in serbia and meant to be only limited to the music but then grown to a whole movement in the social life of the balkans. The main traits of turbo folk are the following:
- lack of inteligence
- peasant origin (not really necessary)
- whore-type dress style (for women) and "big necklaces, cheap sport's wear, white socks and black shoes" (for men)
- mostly a background of "expensive" cars
- silicone....LOTS of silicone

In fact, the last years the turbo folk replaced the porno industry in the balkans. The women who would like to become a turbo folk singer/dancer should go through several tests of their sexual capacities. Just after being sleeping with 2 producers, 1 CEO, 2 high level criminals, 7 low level criminals, 4 shopassistants (generally in butcher's shop) and 12 neigbours they are titled "APPRENTICE"

In general to become a TURBO FOLK SINGER there is also an "lack of intelligence test" with those 3 questions:
1. 2+2=?
2. What is the first name of Bill Clinton
3. Name one river starting with "D" and finishing with "unav"

If you have more than one correct answer you are expelled for good from the TURBO FOLK society.
