Tahan is a word that appeared during the french colonial period in Tunisia. Back in the day, colonizers would use traitors in "courts" to condemn resistants. To protect said traitors and guarantee the prosperity of their long term partnership with local snitches, they would cover their faces with a bag of t'hin (flour) before they give their testimonies.
