Although other people are offering plausible etymologies for this word, I'm guessing it more likely is a "verbing" of a shortened version of mercenary, or soldier for hire. Just like narcotics officers became narcs, which then became a slang verb for snitching to cops, I think mercenary became merks, then merked became a slang verb for acting like a mercenary, or killing, robbing, etc.

The merk is a complex revenge move requiring near instant reaction time and perfect balance, To do the merk you need a chair (preferably the old grumy office chair), a buddy, and prayers. Step one: Balance on the chair using on foot. Step 2: start screaming. Step 3: start nutting across the room while the buddy spins the chair. Step 4: stick sticky notes all over the walls using your semen as glue.
