a furrogate is a pet that has been treated like a baby or child - it similar to a surrogate, but furry. sometime a furrogate can be replaced by real children when they arrive.

her dogs were her furrogates- well, at least until the baby came, when the former furrogates started peeing on her pillows to let her know they didn't take kindly to their demotion in status!
