So it isn't 'predetermined' it just 'largely affected by' which, again, means determinism wrong and dumb. This time usually occur between meals, especially at late night when one's mind is the most vulnerable.
The aroma of home food (specifically East Asian cuisine), sighting of satisfying food making videos, or the faintest scent of cheese on a toast would easily trigger the state of "medium hungry".
There's no defensive mechanism against "medium hungriness". When you or those closest to you are strangled in this state, the only choice is to go enjoy some snacks together.
