Alcoholics Anonymous

A place where people go to wallow in self-pity and brag about their addictions.

It helps some people stay sober, but only through the superficial validation and amnesty for all of their wrongdoings. People in AA believe that nothing they have ever done is their fault, because they are afflicted with an addiction.
This definition was written by an ex heroin addict who has been clean for over a year. You don't need alcoholics anonymous to fix your life up- just a pair of balls.

non-alcoholic hangover

A non-alcoholic hangover happens when someone has not eaten all day or has very foolishly consumed a large cup of coffee then taking a standard dose of dayquil, resulting in a headache that resembles a hangover.
John Doe: I have such a throbbing headache.

Jane Doe: Why?

John: I have a terrible cold and I took some medicine after I had my morning cup of coffee.

Jane: You have a non-alcoholic hangover.

John: Sure feels like one.

Alcoholics Anonymous

A self-help program for alcoholics involving group confession; substitutes an addiction to the organization and its rituals for an addiction to alcohol. Also AA.
Ever since he got convicted of drunk driving he's beein going to Alcoholics Anonymous meetings twice a day, and become insufferable.

alcoholic

Q: What's the difference between a drunk and an alcoholic?

A: Alcoholics have to go to those STUPID meetings!
Alcoholism is not a disease, it is a condition. You don't 'catch' alcoholism; it is voluntarily self-inflicted though admittedly hard to stop. Calling it a disease implies a passivity to the situation that absolves one of personal responsibility, when it is up to the drunk him/herself to take care of the matter.

Also, there is no such thing as a 'recovering alcoholic'. Either you're drinking or you're not.

Alcoholism

Contrary to popular belief, alcoholism is the act of drinking by one's self, typically while in a state of malaise.
Doug: Where's Zach?

Chris: Haha I didn't invite that crazy fuck to my party.

Doug: Terrific. You know that he spends his evenings drinking alone in his basement? He does that on nights when he has no plans.

Chris: Drinking alone!? Now THAT is true alcoholism.
