Goblin Math

A term that gained currency during the pandemic, especially after repeated lockdowns and potential mental breakdowns, to describe the type of negative, irrational, selfish, or self-defeating behavior that plagued many math educators worldwide, because they were tired of conforming to the social or unreasonable expectations of the authorities, or had little respect for vampires or hypocrites with a say in their pay.
Be it adhering to lockdown rules, working from home, or attending to parents’ complaints, demands, and threats, math teachers and tutors had descended into a goblin math state, when they’re waiting to be fired if they didn’t call it quit themselves.

Mask the Math

When rogue, inept, or corrupt opportunistic politicians downplay the high number of infections and fatalities plaguing their countries, by giving an oft-innumerate or gullible public a faux sense of security, who often loosely follow the health measures in place.
Fake right-wing “leaders” from the United States, Brazil, and India notoriously share a number of common denominators: use race or religion as a trump card, mask the math, and refuse to make social distancing or mask wearing mandatory.

Tiger Math

When students from Asia’s four tigers (Singapore, Hong Kong, South Korea, and Taiwan) continually rank among the world’s top ten in international education assessments like the Trends in Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS) and Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA)—it is no surprise that the high mathematical proficiency of their citizens has contributed to their countries’ high GDPs.
A common denominator of tiger math nations is their cult-like devotion to education (and tuition)—one of the strong pillars of their economic success stories.

Math Kaki

The name of the K–12 Singapore math project that aims to help students who are struggling with school math but can’t afford private tuition, or to prevent the unmotivated ones from dropping the world’s most disliked school subject because they are allergic to the teaching style of their teacher or tutor—“kaki” is the Singlish word to describe a close friend or a buddy.
Unlike teachers employed by self-help groups, who tend to be of the same race as that of the students, volunteers from Math Kaki come from all racial groups and economic backgrounds, who have a heart to raise the mathematical proficiency level of those under their charge, regardless of their race, religion, or orientation.
