Tis a slang originally intended to mock a French teacher; Shockingly though, this would end up as an inside joke students would eventually outstrip(famously believed to be) in their assignments, which would many years later be found in neighboring institutes. It's apparently based on the English word "odyssey"{a long and eventful or adventurous journey or experience}.
