False God

A False God is an object of worship, belief, or devotion that is considered illegitimate, unworthy, or non-existent by a particular religion or philosophical view. It often refers to a deity, idol, or concept wrongly given the reverence and status that is due only to the supreme or true God.

Important Clarification on Sacred Images:
It is important to distinguish between a "False God" and a sacred image or idol. A sacred image (such as an icon or statue) is generally understood by its devotees not as the deity itself, but as a representation or symbolic focal point for worship directed toward the One true God or veneration to a saint.

Therefore, if someone claims that a sacred image is a "False God," they are inherently assigning divine status to that image within their own mind. The person who truly believes the image is merely a representation is not worshipping a false god; rather, the person labeling it a false god is the one who, by definition, is mentally equating the image with divinity.
Jesus' statue is not a False God because it's just His representation.
