Used to be a working-class/poor section of Boston with the Lower End being generally poor and the 'Point', especially near the beach, not. Not always as great as portrayed but hardly ever as bad either, it was a decent place to grow up in the city. It's been taken over by the Neo-colonialistic gentrifiers bringing in their parents money and forcing the old residents out.
I have a game ova in Southie.

Southie is the best person you will ever meet. He is kind, loving, funny, super competitive, etc. He loves to hang out with friends. He is tall, with long hair, and he is absolutely adorable. He thinks that your clumsiness is cute and laughs at your cringe jokes. If you ever find a Southie, never lose him.

Once you live in south boston aka southie aka god's country for more than 10 years you become a "southie local" or a "local" for short.
If you move out to say Randolph the timer resets. However, once you hit 10 years you can move in and out as you please an not lose your local status.
