Bootleg Turn

A defensive driving maneuver, also used as a stunt and in extreme situations where a 180-degree turn is required in very little space. Performed by driving forward, then suddenly steering left or right, rotating the car 180 degrees, then driving off in the opposite direction.

The move originated in the Prohibition era, when bootleggers would modified automobiles and created extreme driving maneuvers in an effort to outrun police.

Not to be confused with the J-turn.

Anyone transporting a VIP through dangerous territory should know how to bootleg turn: you never know when you'll be ambushed!

This term originated with smugglers and thieves who would hide things in the leg of their boots. It evolved to mean a pirated version of something. Some liberal bands such as the Grateful Dead, and more recently Phish and Pearl Jam allow fans to record their concerts, and distibute these recordings freely as long as they are not sold. Fans refer to such recordings as "bootlegs", even though they are legal.

Hey man, I got this funky Phish bootleg from Roseland, hook me up with that Europe '72 Dead show and I'll burn you a copy.

pirates of music, games or movies. like sharing mp3s or mpgs over sharing softwares like winmx and kazaa. or people who copy and burn cds on their pc and sell then at a discounted price with no reparations to the original artist. nothing wrong with it though, spoiled divaz don't need more floss up their cracks anywayz.
