When a weapon in a game relating to call of duty is "taken down a notch". This means that it is no longer as good as it was, and is now no longer overpowered.

They nerfed Peacekeeper on Black ops II.

In video games, to nerf an item is to decrease it's power and effectiveness in hopes of making a game more fair.It is used of the name of a toy gun company called Nerf, which sells toy blasters that shoot out soft foam darts.

The m16 was awesome at all ranges until they nerfed it.Now I cant hi a single thing with it, and every time I somehow do, I end up mildly tickling the guy I shot at.
