streak of misery

Commonly refered to as streak of piss. A tall skinny male, who is lacking in any muscular authority whatsoever. Can also be used to describe a female who is extremely skinny and who looks unhappy.

That guy who works in the chemist is just a streak of misery.

emotional miser

A person who doesn't give much to others on an emotional level. He or she may be socially adept and charming and quite generous in other ways, but not when it comes to investing love and trust and friendship in fellow human beings. It could be a form of self-defense or it could be a kind of selfishness, or both. The pop cultural consensus is that emotional misers are missing out on the essential human experience by their disconnection. A common story arc features an emotional miser's transformation into a loving, connected, happier person -- often against his or her own will.

Ryan Bingham (George Clooney's character in Up in the Air) and Will Freeman (Hugh Grant's character in About a Boy) are examples of emotional misers in film and literature.

not worth the misery

A position of intentional reserve and calm stability; having learned through personal experience the abject futility, emotional exhaustion and disappointment sustained in attempting to influence another individuals thoughts, words or deeds.

So, I've just given up trying to get people to stop smoking, texting/drinking-and-driving, bullying others and farting in public...its just not worth the misery.

A person who can just about cope with reality and finds himself on a mission to wake other people up to what he thinks is going on around them.

A person whose default position to any statement by persons claiming authority is one of scepticism or outright disbelief.
