With Covid beyond control, after having been deemed a "hoax", with the economy in tatters, with the court jester whimpering that he had 'won' an election he had, by every measure, lost, America had, at the end of 2020, become the laughingstock of the world, its dignity tarnished.
Many with a skewed misunderstanding of the concept and definition of dignity equated it with heedless self-centeredness. No one would infringe on their freedom. They went maskless and contracted Covid, passing it to family members, sitting defiantly at the Thanksgiving table because they had been urged to do so by those they followed. Limbaugh, Bannon and Giuliani would not visit them in the hospital as they gasped for breath, Trump would not weep at their grave. Indeed these figures and their cronies laughed at those they openly manipulated for their own narrow ends, laughed at how easily and willingly so many volunteered to be the classic con-man's marks, unaware that their personal dignity might have been the least of what they had given away.

Yet being herself a Covid victim, having never shared a dinner table with the Fox hosts whose act she took as truth, having, of course, never been a guest at the Bohemian Grove, to hear Giuliani, Bannon, Miller, talk among themselves, she did not realize how they laughed at her. She had been shamelessly manipulated for their own narrow ends, the classic con-man's mark.
