A phrase used do to the pre notion of someone saying something stupid, obnoxious, rude, or negative.

Matt walks in the door with a disgruntled look on his face. Liz is getting the kids ready for bed. The dishes aren't done.

Matt: thinking to himself "why aren't the dishes done?"

Liz:" shut your thoughts up!"

A phrase often used as an insincere or superficial gesture, implying concern without offering tangible support or action. This phrase is particularly used by public figures and officials, in response to tragedies or disasters.

“During the out-of-control wildfires in Jasper, Alberta, the premier, Danielle Smith, offered 'thoughts and prayers' to those who had lost their homes, but many residents felt this was an empty gesture without any real plan for recovery or assistance."

When you get blackout drunk and end the night with a spectacular performance of Irish Yoga unbeknownst to you with your face firmly pressed against a shinny copper penny. Then proceed to present to work the next morning with said shiny copper penny still adhered to your massively hung over forehead.

April - Hey Caleb can I give you a penny for your thoughts?

Caleb - sure whats up?

April - never mind I see you already have one.

intrusive sex thoughts

It’s like I have hyperactive libido ramped up to 1000x. Sex dominates my thoughts every waking moment of every day. Masterbation helps for all of 5 minutes then it’s back on. Obviously I’m addicted to porn as it helps me masterbate more often to calm the unending torrents, but I’ve been trying really hard to quit as it’s so bad for my mental health and the way I see women, and my hyperactive libido has gotten so much worse. I can’t find any outlet for it at all; nothing I try can make it just stop.

I have intrusive sex thoughts. Fear me!
