Small film studio started in Chicago in 1907. Essanay stands for swanson and anderson.the 2 primary owners and producers of the studios. Several years after opening in Chicago the studio open ed a branch in Niles canyon.ca just south of Fremont. It was here in the 1920s that several well known comedies of Charlie Chaplin were made
Essanay was eventually a absorbed by Warner Bros.relocated to Hollywood
And the rest as they say.
