Electro-motive Diesel (or EMD for short) is a brand that makes locomotives, locomotive products, and diesel engines used in the rail industry. Originally founded in 1922 as Electro-Motive Engineering Corporation, it was acquired by General Motors in 1930 and became GM's Electro-Motive Division.
