A sport based on an athlete riding upon a wide, flat piece of wood with four wheels connected to the bottom. It is both a transportation method, as well as an art form/competitive style event. However, the novelty of skateboarding was obliterated during the turn of the 21st century as a result of several components including;
(1) Clothing brands, fashion accessories
(2) Skater-Punk music (i.e. Avril Lavinge)
(3) A stereotype tab that could be easily manipulated by the media to target teenagers (i.e. anti-drug advertisements, soda commercials)
(4) Video Games (i.e. Tony Hawk's series)
(5) MTV
(and much, much, much more)
Now, skateboarding, the "poseur"'s culture, has been reduced to something of a shambles, something that is despised by everyone. In turn of the culture being ripped apart so harshly by over-exposure, the sport itself is being thought of the same way.
And that is just goddamn wrong.
Maybe someday skateboarding will not have the strings attached to it, the aesthetic expectations, and the millions of rebellious children sucking on its proverbial teats. Hopefully pride will be restored to the once non-conformist sport.

Person A: Only poseurs go skateboarding.
Person B: That's what happens to the public's opinion when something is overexposed and milked dry.

Their skateboarding is usually very clean and technically advanced, especially on flat ground and ledges. A skatebot can be easily spotted by their fresh (as opposed to hesh) gear, usually featuring a berrics or any kind of purple shirt. Although they may have style and land every single trick, they have no soul.

Get the skatebot mug.A skater is a human being who enjoys riding a skateboard because it is fun. a lot of skaters could be classified as 'punks' but this is just a stereotype. true, some skaters so wear tight jeans and a pair of emericas, but a lot of them just dress 'normally'.
there are vert skaters and street skaters. vert skaters skate in halfpipes. street skaters skate stairs and ledges and such. street is currently more popular than vert, mainly because it is easier to do. not to say that it requires less skill; I mean that street requires no ramp, therefore it can be done in more places that vert.
skateboarders are often said to be druggies, but this is simply not true... True skateboarders have no use for drugs. It's all about landing those tricks! landing a trick is the ultimate high.
I could say a lot more but i don't have a lot of time to write so I'll end it hear.
skateboarding is not a fad, it's a way of life.
while i may not skateboard every day, i do it for the right reasons... not to get freinds or to cash in on the rise in popularity that skateboarding has suddenly taken.

Get the Skater mug.a type of guys, usually ages 12-19, that are into skateboarding. they wear new era hats sometimes, they have hair at least covering half their ears, and often wear somewhat tight pants. They wear clothing of brands like Volcom, Hurley, Element, and Quiksilver. Other times, they wear loose pants and stud belts and have part of their underwear exposed, or covered by a baggy shirt. They wear Vans shoes, or any other type of skate shoe. They are almost all the time in the "cool" or "popular" group at skool. all (or most) of the girls love them, and in fact, in a lot of places in the world, skater boys are considered the hottest or sexiest type of guys. skater boys are, however, to non-skater guys, total jerks and/or assholes. they are totally confident and feel good about themselves and get girls all the time. screw skater boys!
Professional skateboarders like Bam Margera and Tony Hawk are awesome, so are video games like Skate 2 and Tony Hawk's Project 8, but 12-19 year old over-confident punks who are not famous (yet) are not! I only know like, 4 skater boys who are not jerks and that i am friends with.
