The Elasticity of Philosophy studies how philosophy has been defined—from ancient wisdom to modern discipline to contemporary pluralism—and how these definitions stretch under pressure from new contexts. It asks: what are the limits of philosophy's stretch? When does stretching become something else (theology? literature? science)? How does philosophy recover from its own failures (philosophy's complicity in oppression)? It's philosophy reflecting on its own history and possibilities.
