Sterling

A small town in the absolute middle of nowhere in Connecticut. It is a place where inbreeding is not only common, but accepted. Full of rednecks and people who look like they belong on death row. In the town resides two campgrounds, well three if you count a nudist colony as one. Some say its the water, others assume its the genetics. The world may never know. But mostly the world will never care.

Sterling

Something that is profoundly irritating, designed to mislead, or makes no sense whatsoever. Similar to smoke and mirrors but considerably more mundane.

"What a sterling email" - an email heavy with words but light on meaning or commitment to anything at all.

"A stirling job" - a job that has been done in a way so as to give the impression of completion but that actually is only designed to hide or detract from underlying defects or incompetence.
