Site of the 2014 Winter Olympics; very controversial because the Olympic site area will be built at the site of a massacre of Circassian people by the Russians on May 21, 1864 and because construction of the Olympic site will cause long-lasting, if not permanent, pollution to the ecology of the area.
The Circassians have proclaimed May 21 as a national day of mourning and are very angry that Sochi is being used as a host city for the 2014 Winter Olympics.
