otakukin

The horrible, fiery collision of the otaku and otherkin subcultures. I.e., people who believe they are somehow involved with/reincarnated from the souls of anime/video game characters. Japanese pop culture is literally their religion. And no, it's not a joke. They are the ultimate illustration of how utterly batshit insane the Internet has become.
After I heard about the otakukin, everything else seems sane by comparison. Even shitting dicknipples.

Otakuspeedvibe

An umbrella term to cover a variety of anime-themed speedcore/hardstyle/gabber acts such as DJ Sharpnel (and many of his other incarnations), Killingscum, Noizu, and possibly Blasterhead, including many others.

High-speed, pitch-shifted, far east pounding bastardrave!

It was also the name of an anime speedcore party where, amongst others, DJ Sharpnel performed.
"I put all the DJ Sharpnel albums under 'Otakuspeedvibe' on my mp3 player for easy access."

otaku

The term "otaku" seems to have been introduced to anime fans in the US and other countries via Studio Gainax's "Otaku no Video 1985," a self-parody film.
Otaku, meaning probably "venerable house," refers to someone who has a devotion to a subject or hobby (not necessarily anime) to the point of not leaving home. For instance, an otaku fan of a particular movie star could quite possibly know all of the films s/he has been in, their birth date, time of birth, shoe size, favorite toothpaste, etc. Generally speaking, calling someone an otaku in Japan is an insult, implying that their social skills have atrophied or never even developed, due to their manic involvement in their chosen fandom.

In America, the term is used to denote a zealous fan, usually of anime and/or manga. Due to its introduction to most people's vocabulary through its tongue-in-cheek use in Gainax's film, "otaku" tends to have a much less dire definition overseas.

When dealing with Japanese people, however, it may be best to keep in mind the modern Japanese image of an otaku -- Someone who only leaves their home to eat or shop, if at all, with an overwhelming and unhealthy obsession about something. It can as easily refer to a stalker or sociopath as it can to a harmless anime buff.

Best to avoid the word altogether if one is not sure of the context in which it will be received.
Positive: "Oh, wow! Check it out: Neck-through, Floyd Rose locking tremolo and an optional push/pull coil tap!" (slaps forehead and laughs) "Man, I am such a guitar otaku, aren't I?"

Negative: "Stay clear of Toshi, man. He's such a RQ otaku, always online. Bet he's never actually even talked to a real-live girl before... You never know when he's gonna' snap, right?"

otakon

Largest anime convention on the East Coast of the USA. Known for its annual expansion to engulf the entire Baltimore City Convention Center. Also known for batshit crazy lines and the large volume of cosplayers and other curious types who invade the city and amuse and/or terrify residents and eat all the food at the nearest fast food joints.

Lasts three days in July or August and is usually followed up by exhausted and giddy blog posts. Notable events at the 'kon are the anime music videos, the masquerade, the rave, and in recent years concerts held by Japanese musicians such as L'Arc~en~Ciel.
Otaku A: OMG did you see the line for the Laruku concert? It wrapped around entire city blocks!
Otaku B: No I didn't see it... I was IN IT. >:O

Otay, Panky

Translated: "Okay, Spanky."

A line from Little Rascals made famous by Gordon Lee, who played Spanky's kid brother, Porky. Lee's signature line, "Otay, Panky," came about because he had a speech impediment and couldn't say his K's and S's.

Currently thr phrase could be used as an affirmative reply when someone tells you something fairly obvious. It's a silly way of saying "okay."
Bob: "Don't walk in the steet because you might get hit by a car."

otakin

A sort of crossbreed between fans of anime and otherkin, Otakin believe that they are actually the reincarnation of an anime (or occasionally game) character and that the worlds depicted in popular animes such as evangelion and games like final fantasy exist in another dimension. Unlike their otherkin counterparts, otakin are relatively rare and tend to limit their activities to obscure message boards and livejournal communities.
