Get the How to beat all fearsmug. Great fuckin' movie! Got to add some points that have been missed: based on real events while Hunter S Thompson was supposed to be covering the Mint 400 (not filming it) - it was originally supposed to be a Sports Illustrated caption, not a book on the American Dream written in pure Gonzo journalism. The attorney is based on the real man, Oscar Acosta, who was also there and is Chicano, not Samoan. Hunter tried to get first SI, then Rolling Stone to cover "expenses" but they were deemed too outrageous - Random House paid for it, giving them future control of HST's book.

The fear that always creeps into your mind while sitting in the lobby of the dentist's office, even though you know it's just the dentist and you're being stupid and panicking about nothing. Many people try to calm this syndrome by reading one of the magazines or books in the lobby, but usually this just makes things worse.
(In the Dentist's Office)
Bob: (reaches for lobby magazine and starts reading)
Tracy: Gosh Bob, I've never seen someone look so nervous reading a magazine before! What's wrong?
Bob: Uhhhh it's nothing, really.
Tracy: Bob, don't tell me you still have Dentist's Office Fear Syndrome!! I thought you were over that years ago!!
Bob: Ahhh stop it!! I can't control it!!(Breaks out in hysterical crying)

Journalist Raoul Duke and attorney Dr. Gonzo travel to Las Vegas in 1971 to cover a motorcycle race for a sports magazine and enjoy a haphazardly planned vacation. The vacation turns highly irresponsible and reckless as the two consume copious amounts of illegal drugs, commit various acts of fraud, and generally wreak mayhem upon the citizens of Las Vegas.
