The belief that females should, at the time of belief, be given more power than they currently have. This is regardless of the current male state of power, whether it be at its lowest or highest. Also, both men and women can be feminists.

Note: Feminism is NOT the belief that women and men should be equal, that is known as egalitarianism.

John: Why is Mary a feminist?
Max: she thinks women are better than men.
John: Isn't that sexism?
Max: By her logic, only men can be sexist.
John: so feminism is hating men?
Max: not usually, at least as long as women really are opressed.

Feminism

1. The right to choose in a non-oppressive society that is free of societal hierarchies.

2. A movement to end sexist oppression as well as domination relations. This does not only aim to make women equal to men, but all people equal to each other in rights. It is one gear in the bigger machine of human rights.

3. A movement to recognize and work to end the oppression of women in any form.

4. An examination of sexism with the intent to end it.

5. A movement for social justice with an emphasis on gender.

Feminism is a movement for social justice and human rights.

Feminism

A movement that aims for both genders to be equal. The common misconception is that it is a group of women who think that they are better than men (see misandrist). Feminism is recognising that men do have their own problems, specific to their gender, and so do women. Feminism is recognising that men get raped as well as women. Feminism is recognising the fact that women do get paid less than men and that this is wrong. Feminism is allowing boys to wear dresses if they want to and allowing girls to where pants. Feminism is accepting others as equals for who they are.

Just because it's called FEMinism, doesn't mean that it's just about girls. It's about everyone. Just like the phrase man kind includes women too.

I need feminism because I believe that everyone should feel safe when being themselves in public.
