grief tragedy sympathy hope industry

An industry that loves to tell people who their heroes are/should be.
Thanks to the grief tragedy sympathy hope industry, the aviation museum that always had a name good enough for the residents of the city that went there had to change it's name to honor a guy they were told was their hero, rather than anybody asking them who their personal heroes were. Perhaps their personal heroes were a family member or someone from closer to home than Texas, but since nobody asked them, they were forced to adopt a guy they were told was their hero as their personal hero, without any room for anyone else (since many of them thought the name of the museum was good enough as it was, without being forced to change, and it was going to get changed to a preselected name chosen by the "new guard" instead of by the residents).

immigration Industry

(a very offensive term I found on Craigslist): for a Western country to be letting in immigrants, even undocumented immigrants with no criminal records, from Third World countries and at the same time outsourcing the low skilled jobs that these immigrants are capable of doing.

ethno
before embarking on an Immigration Industry policy, Western governments should, IMHO, first learn what ethnocultural neo-anthropology is all about

Goodswill Industries

A chain of "thrift stores" which operates by having people donate their garbage for free, only to have the chain mark the items up and sell them to others for more than they are worth. The front-line workers are paid chump change on the pretext that this is a charity, somehow offering "vocational training" to people with limited job prospects elsewhere.

Unfortunately, if people donate their garbage to you and you resell it, it's still garbage... yet somehow they could sell me trousers with holes in the pockets, refuse to take them back and still fail to turn a profit on these ridiculous transactions.
The Goodswill Industries banner is gone entirely from any point in Ontario, Canada east of Toronto or north of Newmarket after a spectacular 2016 bankruptcy in which the Toronto-based regional chapter of the chain was revealed to owe six million dollars of money it doesn't have, most of it to its own workers. One corner of Southwestern Ontario is unaffected because it belonged to a different regional chapter, centred on London, but Ontario is otherwise finally rid of Goodswill.

Strategy Industrial Complex

The term coined by Sadagopan Singam refers to the self reinforcing ecosystem of research firms, consulting companies, analysts, and influencers that shape and often amplify corporate narratives - especially around emerging topics like GenAI, Digital Transformation,ESG and Innovation Strategy etc. It represents how these players mutually benefit from creating frameworks, maturity models, buzzwords, and “thought leadership” which companies feel compelled to adopt, often without sufficient diligence or grounding in real business impact!
The strategy industrial complex thrives on fear based messaging - if you are not on the latest trend, you are behind - creating a self sustaining demand for playbooks and advisory services!

Industrial Light & Magic

Industrial Light & Magic (ILM) is an American Academy Award-winning motion picture visual effects company that was founded in May 1975 by George Lucas. It is a division of the film production company, Lucasfilm, which Lucas founded, and was created when Lucas began production of the film Star Wars. ILM originated in Van Nuys, California, then later moved to San Rafael in 1978, and since 2005 it has been based at the Letterman Digital Arts Center in the Presidio of San Francisco. Lynwen Brennan, who joined the company in 1999, currently serves as ILM's President and General Manager. In 2012, The Walt Disney Company acquired ILM as part of its purchase of Lucasfilm.
Lucas wanted his 1977 film Star Wars to include visual effects that had never been seen on film before. After discovering that the in-house effects department at 20th Century Fox was no longer operational, Lucas approached Douglas Trumbull, famous for the effects on 2001: A Space Odyssey. Trumbull declined as he was already committed to working on Steven Spielberg's film Close Encounters of the Third Kind, but suggested his assistant John Dykstra to Lucas. Dykstra brought together a small team of college students, artists and engineers, and set them up in a warehouse in Van Nuys, California. Lucas named the group Industrial Light & Magic, who became the Special Visual Effects department on Star Wars. Alongside Dykstra, other leading members of the original ILM team were Ken Ralston, Richard Edlund, Dennis Muren, Joe Johnston, Phil Tippett, Steve Gawley, Lorne Peterson and Paul Huston.
