it was august. we were spending the week in castelnuovo berardenga. the heat was making you sleepy and uneasy. but you couldnt fall asleep how hard you tried. i brought you tea. then we tried wine. one glass, third glass. left you sweaty. i gave you a massage on both sides, all the way down, repeat, turn around, my fingers numb, you closed your eyes, you said insomnia is bad, i wanna go home, im constipated too and in pain. I felt so sorry. I wanted to take away your unease, make you enjoy our stay, enjoy the beauty outside, us, together. I lay down next to you, holding you from behind so my hands could softly, slowly massage your belly with just a tiny bit of pressure. You allowed me to rub my face against your back, sporadically kissing your neck and whispering stories of all our previous trips ("do you remember that one time we were in biarritz and we...") Can't say when but you did fall asleep eventually and i decided that night i was always going to be your friend, your partner. I care so much about your well-being that i would even leave you if it meant you would be better. 🖤
