A pilot who has not yet attained an Instrument Rating - the qualification required to fly in instrument meteorological conditions, such as through clouds or in thick fog.

A term for a pilot who after reaching the mandatory retirement age of 60 would not retire, but instead would move into the Flight Engineer seat, which does not have a mandatory retirement age.

1) My Second Officer was a herpes pilot. Those guys just wont go away.

It means a young man fall in love with an older woman. Old woman is often referred to "old lady plane". Therefore, to "control" the "old lady plane", the "young pilot" must be in charge of it. We can abbreviate the meaning by saying someone wants to drive an old lady.
