Sad Girl 

A nickname that is Chicana/Latina in origin, Sad Girl usually refers to a tough girl who has suffered extreme hardships (i.e. someone she loves, or more than one person, has gone away for life, or been killed through violence usually street related) and may be quiet or aloof but does not let her suffering drag her down. She is not necessarily affiliated with a gang or club but wears her heritage and her hardships proudly, sometimes in tattoo form.

In short, they are gen z's version of the emos. Both are 15 to 20 year old depressed white kids, they both wear edgy looking clothes (though emo is more punk where as sad boy is more basket case), the main thing that separates a sad boy from an emo is their taste in music. Emos listen to edgy rock and screamo music, where as sad boys listen to experimental cloud rap and vaporwave.

There's a sad boy in my school who always sits alone at recess while looking at memes on his phone and listening to yung lean.

you say this when someone asks you if you are okay when you are extremely depressed. It's a subtle way of saying that you aren't okay without ruining the vibe

The hours where people show their emotion the most when no one is around the emotion is usually depression

When the media (mainly television) will report non-stop about "sad" events such as Darfur, AIDS, people dying of the Swine Flu, a teenager's dying last wish fulfilled, philantropy of billionaires, athletes visiting cancer wards and later playing that night through the anguish, Brett Favre's Monday Night Football game after his father died, people losing their homes and Jimmy Carter's response to it, "Where's Caylee," a man or woman who used to make six figures working at Fridays, 9/11 (and anything 9/11 related) and other lugubrious moments that are recycled for the purpose of jerking our tears and jolting the ratings of the networks.

KELLY: Did you see Nancy Grace last night? A baby was raped, a couple lost their home, Bill Gates donated 1 billion to Darfu, another baby was raped, Derek Jeter gave a random baseball to an 8-year old with an inoperable brain tumor, 9/11, 9/11, economy hurt people, baby raped again.

KEVIN: Yes, it's called Sad Nauseum.

KELLY: Is that kind of like when a baby is raped?

KEVIN: No. No it isn't.
