Usually used as a verb when something clearly sucks. (also known as Hugroot)

We were at a another keg party on Ackerman that really hugged root. It was a total sausage fest.

root band

One notch below a hair band. Any '80s/ early '90s glam or pop metal band whose music is so appallingly awful that it doesn't evem deserve to be called a hair band.

Poison is a decent hair band. Nothing special, but they have some listenable tunes. Winger, on the other hand, doesn't even rise to that level. They're what I'd call a root band.

1) Spontaneous and aggressive use (or threats to use) UNIX administration power to punish users with lesser privileges.

Most often resulting from an overblown ego and heightened sense of self importance linked to root privileges.

2) A cavalier attitude toward others with lesser user privileges.

A characteristic of most Unix System Administrators.
