Tidbit from Merriam-Webster: “Meretricious can be traced back to the Latin verb merere, meaning ‘to earn, gain, or deserve.’ It shares this origin with a small group of other English words, including ‘merit, meritorious, and emeritus.’ But, while these words can suggest some degree of honor or esteem, ‘meretricious’ is used to suggest pretense, insincerity, and cheap or tawdry ornamentation.”

Mercat

An animal whose sole evolutionary purpose is to express displeasure at a situation/person. "Mer" is both the Mercat's mating call and a signal it is about to attack.

merekat

1.) A small and hairy mamal that digs holes. The Merekat on occasion is known to hump people (similar to the dolphin). They are not friendly, and often eat babies. They are commonly associated with the cat, however they more closely resemble the ferret. Take note that the cat in mereKat is spelled with a K. Merecats have unusually large genitailia, and have vivacious sexual apetites similar to Hugh Hefner on Viagra.
