Get the gaslighting mug.A form of psychological abuse (or ambient abuse) in which one or more persons deliberately engage in providing multiple accounts of false information to the victim, making them doubt their own memories or question their sanity, and it is up to the victim to guess which information is correct. Similar to gaslighting, but can be layered.
I had a paperwork problem with an employer that required me to meet with another person and fill out paperwork. After filling in the paperwork, a different person contacted me and said the paperwork was incorrect and to contact the first person to resolve the problem. The first person denied meeting with me and told me there was no paperwork in the system at all. I set up an appointment to meet with them and start over. They left the office on vacation an hour before I arrived. Their receptionist told me to fill out the paperwork myself and deliver it the next day. When I delivered it the next day, the receptionist gave me a name (in the same office) who I could contact about it and said they would give the paperwork to them. I couldn't speak to them directly without setting up an appointment. I called the person later in the day to set up an appointment. They said they didn't have the paperwork. When I explained that I handed it to the receptionist, they angrily told me I can't do that because the receptionist would put it in the mail system, which would leave the building, go to the post office, and come back before it would get to that person's desk. The receptionist knew this.
A week later I received a letter indicating that the second set of paperwork was rejected as it contradicted the first set of paperwork (that was supposedly not in the system).
"We're guesslighting that guy to see if he figures out that the job was pulled a week before the interview."

Telling someone the truth repeatedly to insinuate or imply that it is false, employing Reverse Psychology. This is normally used with phrases that sound far-fetched or even unrealistic because it is easier for someone to dismiss the repeated statement as false and assume that it's a joke or convincing themselves that it will not happen.
17 year old: I'm going to buy 10 Bottles of Jack Daniel's for my 18th birthday.
17 year old repeats this phrase multiple times to one or more people each to employ Reverse Gaslighting, they then proceed to buy 10 Bottles of Jack Daniel's on their 18th Birthday.

Get the Gaslighting mug.Gaslighting? Is that some word your little internet friends taught you? They’re taking advantage of you, you need to listen to me not them. I love you more than they ever could. Why would I ever lie to you? I can’t believe you would even say that. You’re being so rude to me right now. You should be glad I haven’t left you yet.

Get the Gaslighting mug.A form of psychological abuse in which someone (historically male) attempts to invalidate or belittle another person (historically female) by painting a picture of them as 'psycho' or 'crazy'.
This is often done to justify, or deflect from the abuser's behavior.
This can be done in numerous ways
1) By attempting to trick the person themselves into thinking they are insane. Trying to make them lose trust in their own memory or perception.
2) By provocatively baiting someone (often by taunting them or pushing their buttons) into reacting 'irrationally' so that you may demonstrate to others that they are 'unmanageable', 'psycho' or 'crazy'.

F. Scott Fitzgerald was having an affair. In an attempt to 1) get rid of his wife, and get her out of the picture, and 2) justify his infidelity, he would try to convince her and others of her insanity. He would hide her belongings, torment her, withhold information from her then insist he told her and she simply forgot. This led to her being locked away in a mental asylum.
"Did you see how Michael was gaslighting Amber on Love Island last night? Her reaction to him cheating was completely sound until he provoked her by taunting her, and now he thinks he has proven his point that she is 'childish' and 'crazy'."
