The trend continues throughout life, where females are given the benefit of the doubt many times where males would not be.
Treating females as a more at risk group of people for hardship or violence is sexism, it's as sexist as males doing the same thing, since it prioritizes just one sex instead of looking at both. Bad shit can happen to all groups, races, and sexes.
