Bellevue Football

A bunch of DI athletes from around the country that all mysteriously make there way over to this school to beat average white kids in a sport.
Guy: Wow Bellevue Football seems to win state every year.
Guy2: Yeah probably because their starters are recruited from all around the country.
Guy: Oh that still doesn't explain why the mediocre kids from Bellevue talk trash all the time.

Triplets of Belleville

An animated film released in France in 2003 by director/writer Sylvain Chomet. Originally titled "Les Triplettes de Belleville," the story chronicles the life of Madame Souza, the tough but lovable Portuguese grandmother of the orphaned boy Champion, who discovers and encourages his love of bicycling. Beginning sometime after World War II in the outskirts of Paris, the story starts with a hilarious television broadcast of an old performance of the Triplets of Belleville, a 1920's jazz trio reminiscent of the Boswell Sisters. The story then jumps to the 1960's, where an adult Champion, ruthlessly trained by his grandmother, has entered the Tour de France and is kidnapped en route by mobsters. Madame Souza and her slow-moving dog, Bruno, travel across the ocean to Belleville (an odd hybrid city containing aspects of New York, Montreal, and Paris) in pursuit of her grandson's kidnappers. On arrival, they run into the aging Triplets, now elderly women living in the slums and making their income through avant-garde performances on devices not designed to make music. Together, they must confront the French Mafia in an attempt to rescue Champion.

Produced by a French/Belgian/Canadian consortium, the Triplets is a masterpiece of animation with practically no dialogue (sure to bore those with limited attention spans or who cannot understand subtle humor), but is more than compensated for by the sound effects, bizarre animation, musical score, historical references, political jabs, and multiple cameo "appearances" by the likes of Josephine Baker, Django Reinhardt, and Fred Astaire (who is killed and eaten by his own shoes!).
Although I avoid animated films for their schizoid animation and general lack of plot, I have recommended The Triplets of Belleville to many people as not only the best animated film I've ever watched, but one of my favorite films of all time.

bellevue, WA

A suburb of Seattle which no one acknowledges is defined by whether or not one lives east or west of I-405. On the west side of I-405, near the lake, are the classically wealthy seattle suburbs-- Medina, Clyde Hill, Hunts Point, Yarrow Point, Evergreen Point, Beaux Arts. Its denizens tend to be a) fourth generation descendants of humble Seattle scandinavians b) second generation new englanders or c) (and perhaps most unfortunately) first generation Californians. On the east side of I-405 exists what can only be described as uncouth suburbia. With names like newport hills, factoria, and tam o'shanter, these neighborhoods are defined by either by shag carpet in the basement or by stucco walls built by John Buchan (in the case of Newport Hills). The vast majority of Bellevue's asian population lives on the East side. There are no black or hispanic people on either side. West siders will always say they live in Bellevue, even though they technically don't. East-siders who have somehow stumbled into wealth will move to the west side and buy their kids Sea-Doos.
On the commercial side, the city is dominated by a regional shopping mall, PACCAR, and a few tech firms. Major developments promise to bring an influx of population, further eroding Bellevue's suburban/rural aesthetic in favor of commercial aggrandizement and psuedo-trendy-yuppie-condo-villages. Commercial Bellevue aspires to the vibrancy of its northern neighbor, Kirkland, but its downtown lacks the natural beauty that the Kirkland waterfront possesses, and is defined more by its wide, pedestrian-unfriendly street grid and developer Kemper Freeman's sophomoric attempts at creating an eastside version of Seattle's Belltown. (A container store, sir?). People who think that Bellevue residents are elitist have never been to Southern California or New England.
