Get the hand waving mug.A term used to describe the process of including diversity for the sake of pushing diverse agenda, or where it does not fit. This is very similar to white washing, but usually does the opposite. It most commonly applies to film adaptations of books, who race or gender swap characters to ensure the film cast is diverse, in places where the book or story characters were not. It also applied to historical adaptations in which a character (usually white) from history is portrayed as being some other race than they actually where historically. Can apply to film, video game, comic book, plays, books or any other form of media.
Portraying Achilles as a black man, instead of Mediterranean, is just film makers diversity washing Homer's Greek classic The Iliad...
