Off the Richter Scale

Something that is too extreme to be measured. The Richter Scale is officially used for measuring earthquakes; anything above 7 is described as a major quake. Anything "off the Richter Scale" (or "Off the Richter") is therefore an extreme example.

"Man, that surf was totally off the Richter Scale".

Richsplaining

Richsplaining: When a person who hasn't experienced poverty gives you patronizing advice on how to get out of poverty.

Working one job full-time for minimum wage will NOT get you out of a homeless shelter. But if you work two jobs, you will be late for check-in and the shelter won't let you in.

"You should just get a job if you don't want to be homeless" Richsplaining to the beggar.

Officially a measurement of the energy released by an earthquake, this is often used as a measurement of anything extreme. Something described as 'Off the Richter' or 'Off the Richter Scale' is particularly dramatic.

"That wipeout measured 7 on the Richter Scale!"
