Punk Rock originally had a three chord sound. Everyone knew that the music was not important as the message. Sid Vicious was never known as the best player of the 70s or of any era, but everyone knew who the Sex Pistols were.
True punk rock bands include (but are not limited to): Sex Pistols, Black Flag, Ramones, Youth Brigade, Bad Brains, DK (pre-1987), Descendents, Minor Threat, Fugazi, 7 Seconds, Bad Religion, Sub Society, and Teen Idols.
Examples of "punk" rock, only by record label classification: Good Charlotte, Blink 182, Simple Plan, Avril Lavigne, No Doubt (yes, I once had someone tell me they are punk. Yes, you may laugh too), 311, and The All American Rejects.

Freedom rebellion. Not a stereotype to a certain type of clothes or hairstyle. Unless you know you are punk, that is considered hypocritical. It's an inside feeling, a way one sees the world, to explore it freely and express yourself within it and the punk rock music. Even crossing boundaries to different genres, because, of course, without punk rock... all music wouldn't be the same today. You might be punk if you don't care what others think of yourself, under any circumstances.
Punk rock is what I say it is! You think you are so cool by criticizing me? I don't have to listen to what you say, no one ever had to. I'm not going to change for anyone, and that including you. Instead, I'll take problems, like you for example and scream about them in a loud manner, so that the whole world knows.

punk rock is just not giving a fizzuck. and you can't really define it anyway, its different to everyone, because punk is something in everyone. and like who are you to say its wrong? brrt go fuck yourself. and good charlotte and stuff didn't "wreck" or "tarnish" punk, because you cant wreck it .. thats suggesting its replacing it, which is doesnt or can't. it's not like it can make it go away or anything. fuckers.

To try to define punk rock is stupid. Punk rock is a kind of music, and is the life style around it, that started it. Your punk if you really don't give a damn what people think. Punk rock music is generally raw and fast 3 chord music, and it always has lyrics that are about something that the written wants to be out there. The lifestyle of punk rock kids though doesn't mean you only listen to punk rock, it means you listen to, and do whatever you want and don't give half a fuck what other people think. A true punk rock kid could listen to one direction, acdc, the Ramones, and 5sos and still be punk rock cause if the way they held themselves and acted. If your punk, you speak and act out for what you believe in, especially of it will make you uncool.

A brilliant form of music that was actually founded by music god Lou Reed with this band Velvet Underground (sorry pop-punkers but it was the great Mr. Reed who actually has talent that founded punk, not fucking GC or some other crappy excuse for a band). Other real punk bands include the Sex Pistols, The Clash, The Damned, The Buzzcocks and many more.
Lou Reed and Joe Strummer are excellent musicians. Benji Madden and the guy from Blink 182 are shit. Can't get a better example than that.
