Locked in 

Normally not used in a serious tone, The term is used when someone is particularly focused on achieving a goal or task with a closed face expression, similar to being "in the zone", being "wired in" while programming or the phenomenon of "hyperfocus" on people who suffer from ADHD.

The inability to come out gay because of the possibility of brutal retaliation from others. This could include being targeted by anti-gay groups, being avoided by your friends, etc.
