I'll be here Saturday at 7am!" and if he even hears that you aren't saying excellent he will just think it's like all those other words he hears that he doesn't know and he'll infer from your smile and body language that it's something good. but really it isn't. and you keep your job too.

Excellence is an intangible noun derived in recent decades from an adjective meaning anything that is not directly in opposition to a mission statement. Basically it is supposed to mean 'good-ness', but better than good, really good. But without any increase in quality of work to back it up. So it can be anything from poor to mediocre to decent to great to outstanding.
