Taken from the TV series "Star Trek", which frequently introduces a new character (often wearing a red shirt), who dies early on, showing the power of that episode's enemy force. This is character is killed so that the regulars, Kirk, Spock, Sulu, Uhura, Chekov, and Scotty, can all remain unharmed.
