A run-down neighborhood, complete with random gunfire, broken-down cars and the sound of police helicopters (ghetto birds), also one of the only places to find affordable rent.

A person or a place that just isn’t up to par.

A person- their attitude or way of dress.

A place- dirty, smelly, horrible management.

Used as a descriptive adjective.

“Dude, that store smells horrible, it’s so ghetto” .
“Just saw Sandy, she looks ghetto”!

Any school district that has less money or more minorities than the one you attend. (Term is usually associated with a closet racist or classist speaking from a position of power in a school.)
