When an individual is deliberately put in a situation that cannot lead to success, and subsequently, receives negative comments from the planner of the scheme behind their back with the aim of benefiting the perpetrator by harming the victim.

Tina wanted her friend to come work for her so she backstabotaged Keith to get him fired so there would be an opening. Keth found out her friend was in on it all along and was devastated.
