Yebenya

(ye be nyá) From Russian. A depressing, run-down, lackluster, faraway place. Could be an industrial town where the factory (mine) closed. Could be a rural settlement. This place has no work, no schools, no infrastructure, sometimes no roads, nothing to do, and no life in general. Everyone who can leave, leaves as soon as they can. Those who can't leave for whatever reason, or who don't want to leave, usually get sucked deeper and deeper into alcoholism or substance abuse. The remaining residents are usually on government welfare or are supported by their relatives who moved away. Often people barter.
