A clique of people viewed as many things, including whiny, artistic, brilliant, and scary. Hypocritically non-conformist, as the goths you see most of (supposedly posers) all wear clothes that were taken out of a burned down Hot Topic and share the same pessimistic attitude. Most of them probably have a great life and still bitch about how mean their parents are. They do not worship the Devil, I'll give them that. Worshiping the Devil is just something that extreme right wing politicians make up to make artists who speak their mind look bad.

Marilyn Manson is not a Goth.
More than half of the population of a school for the arts is probably Goths.

A loser with no personality who listens to Slipknot.. Most fans of what people consider real goth bands like Christian Death, etc, and goth metal like Paradise Lost, don't go around trying to use wearing all black as an excuse for having no personality. Goth's dress generally in all black and for some fucked up reason enjoy to indulge in depression. Thousands of goth fags are replying to this thread saying, real goth's don't listen to Slipknot, etc, but that's bullshit. A typical goth listens to Slipknot because they think their underground and original, dress in all black just because all the other "goth"'s do and have nearly no social lives. They choose not to associate themselves with preps, skaters (not the ones who own a skateboard and think their good cause they can ollie and maybe shuv it in the grass or while not moving.. real skaters), sane metalheads (Black metal fags they tend to like.. Not Celtic Frost, etc, fans, but Dimmu Borgir, Cradle of Filth, etc fags. Metalheads with a decent taste in music like Malmsteen, Exodus, Overkill, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Blind Illusion, Rush, Angel Witch, Death, etc, usually are too "conformist" for them cause they choose not to dress in all black and "rebel" against everything that is minimally popular, mainstream, etc).

There is no such thing as real goths. It's bullshit they came up with just so they could look like "rebels". Goths are pathetic, hypocritical, voids of personality.

And IMO, it's much less homo-erotic to just listen to what music you like (for me it's anything from jazz like John Scofield and Coltrane/jazz-rock fusion like Dark Hall and At War With Self, to mainstream alt. rock/metal like Alice In Chains, REM and System of a Down to metal like Overkill, Sceptic, Vader, Paradox, Testament and Helloween.. And anything from any other genre that I like), wear what you like (and no, all black with 4 pounds of chains thrown in isn't creative) and just do whatever the fuck you want (like Cliff Burton sai.d "Control your life through insanity")

Goth 1: Dude, look at my new black pants I bought this weekend.. They only cost $240... Fight the system man..

Goth 2: I know, why can't people just understand that we're individuals that enjoy expressing ourselves in the least creative way possible and listening to music that is horrible and talentless (which for some reason makes it original and unique)..

It has been said that the only thing worst than a conformist is the one who conforms to nonconformist standards. In essence, that is what has become of the goth subculture. Originally a sharp reaction to preps and jocks, the goth standard has melted down into a standard that cannot be deviated from. Modern day goths follow the same routine and habits: They listen to metal and death metal music, such as Slipknot and Led Zeppelin; they dress in nothing but black; they wear clothing from the unusual (fishnet) to the bizzare (high-top black leather boots); they have many piercings on their body, including (but not limited to) the eyebrows, tongue, belly-button, and lips; they shop at Hot Topic; they describe themselves as 'twisted' or 'dark'. There are more examples I can think of, but by now, you should have a clear mental picture of what a goth is. We all know a goth; (s)he sticks out like a sore thumb. The goth subculture is burning itself up, because it was originally a reaction to conformism. Now, it has simply creatly a new standard to conform to.

labels are convenient, yes, but goths have different styles too.

..gothic lolita-basically trying to look like china doll. theyre cute and they carry around toys, pretty nice lot of people, a lot of them have pink in their hair and whatnot, their hair being in pigtails or braids, etc.
..elegant gothic lolita-they look like people who lived in upper class england in the 1700s ish. top hats, tailcoats,ictorian dresses, lace, black clothing, with other colours on the dark side, i.e purple, dark green, blood red
..happy goth (mostly in japan)- they wear tonnes and tonnes of accessories, and the ultimate goal is to blind you iwth bright, happy colours.its adorable and they do in fact wear pink. quite alot of it. they wear black too, but mainly colours. all over. ( red, yellow, red, light blue, pink, etc)

goths most other places are supposed to be depressed gay rebels, which is not true, of course. trust me, go round asking 'those who are normal' if what they wear makes them happy and theyll say no. its just what they wear. it doesnt express much but for that this guy or that is man enough to wear pink. good for him.

it does hold true that most goths have dyed hair, wear black, and are a little unhappy.but its also true that even though you might be scared of a goth, theyre the nicest group of people youll ever meet if you stop insulting them. theyre pretty smart, leaning toward the artistic side and might be slightly obsessed with music. which by the way does have to be death metal. goths also like bands like the postal service and belle and sebastian.

go to google and look up harajuku or harajuku fashion lo and behold, different styles of goth! or just look up gothic lolita, elegant gothic lolita, etc. great fun, i assure you.

word used to describe losers who like to say that they are going to kill themselves and then do not follow through with it. Typically a spoiled kid whos parents let them do anything. This group of people says that they like to "be different" and be an "indiviual", but fail to relize that they are just putting themselves into another group for other people to make fun of them in.

Goth 

People who express their individuality and dislike of societies conventions by, ironically, rebelling in the same way. They conform to a gothic convention of wearing black clothes, black makeup and having an even blacker outlook on life. These conventions are often enforced by a group mentality even stronger than the one they claim to oppose. Also an old tribe from Europe - but that is lost on many who call themselves goth because listening in ancient history class is definately not cool for a goth

Newbie Goth: Can I be a goth and wear colorful clothes?

A sub-culture in high school and early college that have fallen out with popular modern culture. They are also known as non-conformists. Most Goths try to create a "unique" and "original" style by becoming the opposite of what they hate. In doing so, they come to a conformist state of their own and exclude those who aren't "hardcore" or cool enough.

Blake changed his name to Blaque because he's a freakin' Goth.
