Old Australian slang, still used in parts of New South Wales - a minor cultural phenomenon in the earlier part of the twentieth century due to references contained in the bush poetry of Henry Lawson popular at the time. With no known cure for dysentery existing at the time, this particular colloquialism had a sinister connotation since lost with the adoption of greater methods of preserving hygiene.
