Wheatley Effect

The Wheatley Effect is a behaviour in which a person takes over a successful brand/ company/ rights of media, and ruin it with almost every change they do by choosing stupid decisions

Person 1: "Elon Musk changed that Twitter accounts that don't pay for a monthly subscription will temporarily be restricted to reading 600 posts per day"
Person 2: "that's some kind of Wheatley Effect bullshit"

Person 1: "Elon Musk chose to rebrand Twitter.com into X.com"
Person 2: "wow, the Wheatley Effect must really take place here"

David Zaslav, new CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery following the merger, cancelling Batgirl, a nearly completed feature film, for tax reasons; and continuing to release 2023's The Flash, only for it to disastrously bomb at the box office is an example of the Whealtey Effect

The Restaurant Effect

Subconsciously drinking water at a restaurant while the waiter refills the glass, resulting in a continuous need to use the bathroom throughout the meal.

This is most often seen in nervous people on first dates

Joe: I drank so much water before she arrived! And when she did, I had to leave to go to the bathroom four times during dinner! She probably thinks I'm so weird...

False Midas Effect

Maybe the idea was cool but after a while it became less about the individuals and more about a sub-clique within itself. That's where the fraying begins, and ends with a false Midas effect where everything touched seems golden but it is never tested to prove its legitimacy, just assumed from a self proclaimed credibility on the characteristics of the element without any more inspection than a glance of an eye, therefore failing to realize the lack in malleability and density of the object: the two most defining characteristics. A misunderstanding of the word "experienced" leads to an underdeveloped, misguided conclusion to the "careful observer's" obliviousness to the actual characteristics of plastic. Even the simplest of observers could make out the words, "Made in China", on the back, but a lack in perspective showed the masked issue at literal face value.

Joseph Effect - a phenomenon that makes us question even the skill of ourselves. In February 2022, the famed New York Times crossword puzzle made it the theme, and defined it as, "a hex that enables terrible teammates of Joseph's recyclable plastic elo, to que up in your match, while allowing enemies of your higher silver-gold elo to connect as well, creating an unbalanced game that makes you question your capabilities as a player"
