The word befritzl refers to the Fritzl case in Austria which immediately became an international news story in April 2008 when it got revealed to the world that Josef Fritzl had held his own daughter in captivity for 24 years in a concealed area of the basement in the house where he and his wife lived. The sexual abuse that also took place during this time resulted in the birth of seven children.
