The 5th quarter is slang for the fight that happens between the two teams and sometimes their fans after a football or basketball game. It is called the 5th quarter because it happens after the 4 quarters of the game been completed and the result is final.

When I was in school we had a really bad basketball team. We lost all 4 quarters of the game but we made sure we won the 5th quarter.
