Bias

You admitting to your bias doesn't make what you're doing any different than they are.
Hym "And if you're the bias expert you should, then, be able to understand that your kids aren't all that important and the only thing that matters to me is not letting you force me to work for the rest of my life after stealing from me. Because that is what you want to happen MORE then your kids not dying. I'm not doing anything you want and if you don't do what I want I'll just murder a child. You need to stop letting people interfere with my life or I'm going to start ending your kids."

Survivorship bias

A type of bias where a person focuses on those who passed a selection process while ignoring those who did not.May accidentally be done by researches and news outlets while showing statistics, however, survivorship bias can be used to skewer results intentionally.

A common example of survivorship bias is the story of when multiple researchers examined where planes who came back from WW1 were most damaged. The researchers found that the wings and the back of the plane were the most shot spots. They initially decided to reinforce the spots that were shot the most, however a researcher who was still thinking pointed out that the planes that came back only were shot in the wings and the back of the plane, however those who did not return were shot in the spots that the planes that returned werent shot in.Therefore, the scientists ultimately decided to reinforce the places that returning planes werent shot in.
A doctor is talking to his patient about a new experimental vaccine that could potentially treat the patient's infection. This is how the conversation goes:

Patient:Doctor, this experimental vaccine, what is its effectiveness rate?

Doctor:The vaccine was found to be 90 percent effective in curing the disease you have.

-What happened to the remaining 10 percent?

-...I dont know.

The doctor leaves to check the medical records and returns 10 minutes later.

Doctor:The records say that the remaining 10 percent died 1 to 4 days after the vaccine.

Patient:Survivorship bias at its finest...

bias starter

your favorite member of a kpop group is usually your bias. then there is your bias wrecker who makes you rethink your bias.
but there is a secret third option, your bias starter who is basically the first step who „starts“ the bias staircase.
skz fan: omg i love i.n he is my bias, but i also love leeknow i think he might be my wrecker. however i can’t stop thinking about bang chan i don’t want to exclude him so he will be my bias starter🫰!

atiny: i love san so much but i already have and love my bias and my wrecker. san is my starter!

complexity bias

Complexity bias is a cognitive bias where individuals tend to favor complex explanations, theories, or solutions over simpler ones, even when the simpler ones are more likely to be correct or effective. This preference often stems from the belief that complex ideas are more sophisticated, intelligent, or thorough.
Whenever I ask my friends for advice on a simple problem, they always dive into some wild complexity bias, making everything sound way more complicated than it needs to be!
